Adopting

Thank you for your interest in adopting one of our dogs!

Our Adoption Policy

We do not re-home our dogs to homes where they will be left alone for long

periods of time, i.e. full-time workers. The maximum  time we like our dogs to be

left for is 4  hours on a daily basis.

The garden must be completely secure with fencing.

We do not re-home our dogs to families with children under 5 years of age.

If you live in rented accommodation, we will need written confirmation from your

landlord stating that dogs are allowed.

Our Adoption Procedure

Following your interest in adopting one of our dogs, we will carry out a home visit.  Providing you meet the necessary criteria, we will arrange for you to meet the dog at his/her foster home.  All family members who will be living with the dog must meet him/her.  If you have another dog, they too must be brought along.

On some occasions, it may be possible for the prospective dog to be met either at your home or at one of our Trustees’ homes. When you adopt one of our dogs, you will be required to sign an adoption agreement and we ask for a non-refundable donation.  This donation goes towards our running costs and helps us to continue re-homing other animals in need, it is not for the particular dog.  Our expenses such as veterinary care and food etc are enormous and your donation will help us to continue to rescue and re-home other dogs in need.

We will ring you within 24 to 48 hours after adoption to make sure all is well and that he/she is settling in with you. We are always available to provide help and advice.

Approximately 2 – 4 weeks after adoption, we will carry out a follow-up visit. This is to check on the dog’s progress and to see how it is settling into its new home. Should you experience any problems or have any concerns whilst your dog is settling into its new home, please don’t hesitate to contact us.  We are always available to provide help and advice.

All our dogs are neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.  If a dog is unable to be neutered whilst in our care (i.e. if the dog is too young), we will arrange for him/her to be neutered at the appropriate time.

If, for whatever reason you are no longer able to keep the dog, he/she MUST be returned to Sussex Pet Rescue and under no circumstances be passed onto anyone else (as stated in the adoption agreement).
